Kdg.-2nd GradersStudents that had two PE classes this week were able to play both Hula Hut Throwdown (I chose positions) and MasterMind. These are games that have been adapted for use by the younger students. Young grades only used two or three beanbags for the combinations they had to uncode. 3rd-5thUpper elementary that didn't get PE last week with the half day or no school day Friday played, Space Colonies. Students really had to communicated and work together in this game. Mastermind is a game that rounded out the week. One person set a code of beanbags in a certain color. The rest of the group had to figure out by working together and eliminating colors which beanbags were correct. Mrs. Lapp's had all of their PE days so they were able to play Slingshot It, and had to figure out how to make the ball fly across the gym and hit the other wall with only an exercise band and a foam ball.

Kdg.-2nd GradersThis next unit is themed cooperative activities. We talked about the importance of working together, and good communication. We started off this week with a game called, Hula Hut Relay. Students were divided into teams and raced to assemble their very own hut. There were different builds after we learned to construct such as the whole team bear crawling, crab walking, or blindfoling a person to try and increase difficulty. Younger graders were shown how to assemble, where as the older students had to think critically and combine ideas to figure it out! The last half of the week, classes participated in hula hut throwdown. This is a game where all positions are crutial to team success. For example, if "gatherers" are not adding balls to the ball cart, scorers and destroyers couldn't do thier jobs. 3rd-5th GradersUpper elementary is also working on teamwork activities/accepting all students into their teams. We played the same game as lower elementary did, Hula Hut Throwdown, except I divided the class into two teams, and then those teams had to break down who was playing which of the positions and how mnay of each position was needed. Some classes excelled, and some classes struggled. It was so wonderful to see some of the student step up and really take a leadership role! What a win! The last half of the week, we played a new game called space invaders. In space invaders teams had to move around the gym in hula hoops to collect resources without ever stepping out of their hula hoops. Many kids really seemed to enjoy this one! This year as a school we raised: $2,408 for the American Heart Association.

Students participated in single rope jumping, mini-hurdles, ladders, skip-its, hopscotch/teacher twirl rope, and long rope. The last half of the week was dedicated to our Jump Rope for Heart Adventure Course and our class Jump-a-thon! 3rd-5th GradersTo start off the week, we worked on our long rope jumping skills. We practice starting inside the rope by ourselves, and then with a partner. The next step was to learn to enter a moving rope, and have multiple people enter a moving rope. We all tried double dutch, but decide we might need to practice up for that! To conclude the week we participated in our Jump Rope Adventure Course and we completed our Jump-a-thon. Kdg.- 2nd GradersKindergarteners learned how to jump using a self turned rope this week. We practice the grip, the swing, and talked about keeping the rope going continuously! (easier said than done!) They worked on jumping each day for about 5 minutes at the beginning and end of class to avoid frustration. We worked on using two feet to jump over a long rope, and used various jumping materials to help us practice (skip its, mini hurdles, hula hoops, etc.) First and Second graders were able to participate in Jump Rope Ninja like the older kids. They are just learning so their goals were much lower! The last portion of the week, we played, "Roll with It". Students were divided into two teams. Players from each team would run to their hula hoop to challenge the other team. Both students would roll and dice. The higher number won, and went to move a ball to try and win the game, the other student practiced that many jumps. I liked this game because it was such good practice, and they never had to do more than 6 jumps at a time! 3rd-5th GradersTo start off the week, we participated in Jump Rope Ninja. Students are in a group of three and take turns counting the number of jumps they can do in a row. If they make it to the next number/colored belt they get to sign their name on the poster. This is a great activity because it challenges all levels, the more skilled students tried to work towards and new goal, and the less skilled students had an entire class period to practice. (So important as they cannot do it outside with these negative temps!) Check out some of the posters below! If students made it to black belt, they received a homeade Black Belt Jump Rope Ninja Bookmark! The last half of the week we began Tinikling. Tinkiling is a Phillipine Jumping Dance! We have the jump bands instead of poles so their hearts were pounding! Check out the GIF below!
