We started off this week playing, "four goal scooter hockey." We loved this game and are so thankful for the donation of the scooter hockey sticks by the Kiwanis. We played with four goals and kept track by taking a cone and moving it to your goal after a score. It is a quick and easy way to keep score. Lower elementary began learning positions (goalie, watchdogs and scorers) to help us begin to understand defense, offense, etc. I'm not sure what it is but being called a watchdog, really helps them understand they are helping protect the goal! In order, to make up for the dbl classes and lack of space, towards the end of the week we played "Space Invaders" (k-2) and "Super Kickball" (3-5). Space Invaders is a game that predominantly works on your overhand throwing ability and accuracy to hit a target. We haven't worked to much with overhand throw and so many of them wanted to keep throwing it underhand! Super Kickball reminds me of a combo of sharks and minnows and kickball. There is a kicking team, and a fielding team, instead of running bases students run the length of the basketball court. This game has three outs before your team switches and the same way to get out as traditional kickball. One point it scored on each successful pass as long as you do not have three outs!
Report cards will be coming home shortly. Attached is a more in depth rubric if you have questions about the grading scale used. As always, I am available via email ([email protected]) or school phone (ext. 518) if you have any questions.![]()
This was our last week of Art with the Kindergartners, and next week we begin creative writing. This week was so much fun! We made coffee filter ballerinas. The coffee filters they colored with washable markers, and then we sprayed them with a water bottle and allowed them to dry...attached them to our picture, and voila a ballerina skirt. The second day we painted our hands (it went way smoother than one may think) and make winter cardinals on a branch. They had such a good time with this one, I'll have to remember hand painting is a go for the future! This week flew by with the half days! We started with striking stations at the beginning of the week for 1st-5th. (conveyor belt, floor tennis, wall ball, bucket ball, mat tennis, and a ping pong variation. ) My Tuesday classes made up the game "Stop Light Tennis" due to the snow day last week. Mrs. Sherbinow's 2nd graders beat the whole school and scored the most points! Congratulations! Finally, the last part of the week I only had Kindergartners and First Graders because of the half days so we did some fun tumbling stations! They were able to go through tunnels, roll the dice for a different animal walk, backwards rolls, forward rolls (this was a favorite with the wedge!), balance beam, log rolls, and we used various balance equipment. They really seemed to enjoy this to get out that extra energy they had! The fitness calendar winners were drawn this week from the December Calendars! Bike helmets were won by Cohen in Mrs. Richey's class, and Olivia in Ms. LaMuth's class! Calista was our winner for the extra PE class. They have fun STEM activities planned for this Friday, and next Friday is our Ice Skating Behavior Celebration, so she chose the 27th as her extra PE date! Our plan is to play snowshoe kickball! We are so excited! All of the grades began our striking with short handled implement activities. We played "Partner Catch." This unit will really test our hand eye coordination. The grades all shared the same activity because it was tailored for each students individual skill level. We chose a partner who we could work well with and stood across from each other. Once we made a certain number of catches (varied by grades) or were able to rally back and forth and show the teacher students could move on. This week we predominantly worked on our underhand serve, and mixed in forehand and backhand if we needed to keep our rally going. Objects we used this year were: koosh balls, beanbags, fluff balls, foam tennis balls, actual tennis balls, and even ping pong balls. This activity was such a hit they all begged to do it a second day so they could be able to try and get to the end of the challenge! |
