Kdg.-2nd GradersLower elementary finished up their foot dribble and kicking unit with two really great activities. On our first day of PE this week, we played scooter soccer, and on the second day we played soccer tag. The scooters slowed down play and gave us some time to think about where we should be putting the ball as opposed to just kicking it. The scooters also helped so that we spread out and were not fighting over the ball. Soccer tag is played like regular tag but if a tagger tags you, the ball must be put above your head, and legs apart like a triangle until someone scores a "goal" between your legs, and then the student is back in! Our second graders were able to take it up a notch, and do jumping jack legs so that we worked on our timing as well! 3rd-5th GradersWe continued four goal soccer with all the classes this week. Such a great cardiovascular activity, the kids love this game, and I love that they do so well and work hard! The second half of the week we played soccer kickball. Played like traditional kickball but with one base, and fielders must trap and dribble the ball to shoot it in the goal for an out. Playing this game has got me and the kids so excited for kickball!

Kdg.- 2nd GradersLower elementary started off the week by participating in Dribble 500. In Dribble 500, students dribbled their ball around the roadway and followed different signs. We did push-ups to pump up our tires, windshield wiper abs to clean the bugs off, we toe tapped and looked both ways at the railroad tracks, etc. It was a bunch of fun! Wednesday and Thursday of these week we invited the firefighters into the gym for a fire prevention assembly, which means PE was moved to a classroom. Lower elementary participated in Cosmic Kids Yoga, going on a bear hunt, and the very hungry caterpillar. They did absolutely awesome, I couldn't be more proud of their classroom behavior. 2nd Graders started to learn offense and defense and the important of playing your position and not chasing the ball all over during Zone Soccer. 3rd-5th GradersUpper elementary participated in two activities that helped improve their soccer skills. The beginning of this week students played line soccer in four different teams. The second half of the week (those that had class) started playing four goal soccer. The rest of the classes participated in a variety of PE activities in the classroom. Activities included: (1) PE-oploy (2) Fitness Jenga (3) Bucket Bounce (4) Candy Land Fitness (5) Cup Stacking (6) Fitness Bingo (7) Yoga Congratulations to Mrs. CYHO's 5th Graders for being back to back champs! Mrs. Snyders class was two laps away though so they are right on your tail! Can they take the lead next month? We will have to wait and see...check out the results below!Kdg. - 2nd GradersThis week we kicked off our kicking, dribbling and trapping skills. Day one consisted of 6 diferent stations for skills and drills. Day two focused primarily on dribbling and trapping skills. This was practiced by playing Red Light, Green Light Soccer. 3rd-5th GradersUpper elementary is focusing on a few more skills during their soccer unit. Dribbling, passing, trapping, punting, and shooting. They too started off with stations for the first half of the week. It was followed by a favorite of mine, Soccer Bandits!
Congratulations to the Sherbinow/Gilroy 2nd grade split, for being the most behaved class in the gym for the month of September! Proud of you! |
