Kindergarten-2nd GradersWe are working hard at practicing rolling. We are still developing using our opposite hand/opposite arm, and keeping the ball in contact with the ground during delivery. Students played tic-tac-toe bowling with a partner against another pair of students. It was so funny to watch them earn a piece and strategize where would be the best place to put it! Needless to say, I walked by many times and seen where the kids could have won but chose another square! Those diagonal tic-tac-toes seem to be forgotten! The second half of the week they were able to do more traditonal bowling. Students were in teams of 3 or 4 (Bowler/ Pin setter/watcher) and they got to try and roll and hit all ten pins! 3rd-5th GradersWe started off this week with hand scoring a traditional bowling game. We learned exactly why strikes and spares add up so much faster! Our approach and accuracy have improved greatly this week! The last half of the week was dedicated to 4 corner bowling. I like 4 corner bowling because they decide how many people they need defending the pins and how many they want bowling. It is higher cardio after our relaxing traditonal bowl at the beginning of the week.
Kindergarten-2nd GradersKindergarten and First Graders missed both Monday and Tuesday to practice their rehersal for the musical Tuesday. I received them all on Wednesday and we began our bowling/rolling unit. We played "Roll and score", and talked about how a roll is not airborne or "bouncy". We learned the correct grip for the bowling ball and made sure to step opposite! The last half of the week went back to normal and we participated in "Pin Shuffle." Students were working on rolling their ball in a straight pathway to try and knock over their pin. Each time their pin was knocked over their partner moved it one cone closer to them! It was back and forth, until one person got the pin all the way to them! 3rd-5th GradersWe kicked off our bowling/rolling unit with a personal favorite of mine called, "Pin Down." Pin Down is simpe game where students have 1 hula hoop and 1 pin and students try rolling and knocking over each others pins while guarding theirs from all angles. Lots of cardio, I was sweating just helping balls in play. I had a student tell me that this is their favorite game they ever played, and if they win an extra PE time, this is what they are doing! The second activity of the week was, "Aerobic Bowling." We are focusing on three skills this year (besides grip) (1) Approach (2) Swing and (3) Delievery. We talked about scoring this week and how to correctly write it in for next week!
Kdg.-2nd GradersKinder and First graders missed to practice their musical, and then I got all 60 of them the next day. We played dribbling dragon tails to make sure everyone was safe! Classses that didn't miss also got to work on What time is it Mr. Clock, and Red Light, Green Light Dribbling. These two games were perfect to help learn about traveling, and keeping our eyes up! Lower elementary is really getting better and being able to consecutively dribble and trying to use both our dominant and non-dominant hands. 3rd-5th GradersUpper elementary finished their Basketball unit this week. We played both Sideline Basketball and the Ultimate Shooting Game. Student continued to work on their dribbling, passing and shooting as our three main goals this unit. The effort in both games was over the top-I was very impressed. Pictured below were the winning groups from the classes, you could say they were pretty proud of their accomplishments! |
