Kdg.-3rdLower elementary started off the week with an activity called, "Keeper of the Castle." Keeper of the castle is a fun tag-like activity where students try and steal guarded treasure. If they are tagged while in pursuit they must return to their base empty handed. Once the treasure is gone, the team that had the most becomes the new taggers. Fast paced and keeps their hearts pumping! The second half of the week we continued out tag game unit and played, "Secret Agent Tag." When a player is tagged by a Bad guy he must sit down. He’s stuck down until a freer (Secret Agent) taps him on the shoulder, then he can get back up and continue playing. Careful though, because the Secret Agents can also be tagged! If the Secret Agents all end up being tagged and are sitting, then the round is over. They had so much fun trying to figure out who the freers were! 4th-5thMy Monday classes were lucky enough to go to a surprise viewing of the Peter Pan Musical put on by our MHS students, sadly, they missed PE. Upper elementary focused on scoring and making adaptions from shooting at the 10 meter line. Advanced classes were event allowed to try and shoot balloons on the targets.

Kdg.-3rdIn the beginning of the week, students participated in Frogger! (They kept telling me that they didn't know what that was but we came to the conclusion Crossy Road was similar!) The last half of the week we worked our cardiovascular system in Dragon Tails Tag and What Time is it Mr. Clock? 4th and 5th4th and 5th Graders continued their archery practice this week. We began scoring the target after they shot 5 arrows. The groups that were able to go 2 days this week shot from the 7m line and the 10m line. They could see how big of a difference a couple of meters makes! For the groups that missed Monday, due to no school--we will make up shooting at the further distance next week! Kdg.-3rd GradersKindergarten and First Graders started off their week playing the game, "Grand Slam." Grand Slam is a face paced baseball game where there are 4 teams, 4 bats, and 4 tees. The student hits the ball from the tee, drops the bat, tags the bucket and the next person goes. Groups played for 3 minutes and we decided whose room was the dirtiest (most baseballs!). With the littler grades they get plenty of striking practice, without the worry of students getting hit with the bat! 2nd and 3rd graders played an actual Tball game, and began to learn the rules of baseball. (Whew, are there a lot!) The second half of the week was dedicated to our Easter Stations. We had six stations this year. 1. Bunny Hop Sack Race 2. Easter Egg Spoon Relay Race 3. Toss and Catch Egg Drop 4. Rock Wall 5. Eggsercize Eggs (Don't get a crack and lose all of your eggs!) (K-1) Did a throwing projector activity 6. Search for the Golden Egg Memory Game 4th and 5th GradersUpper elementary began Archery this week! All student participating in this unit need to receive 100% on their safety test to move on to use the actual bows and arrows. Students are able to take the test as many times as they want after the first time, I am available before school, or during recesses for testing. Alternative book work packets going over the same skills are available for student who do not pass the quiz! Day One--> We worked on determining our dominant eye, building a string bow, and learning the 11 steps. (Plus taking our safety test!) Day Two--> We reviewed boundaries/safety rules, review whistle commands, parts of the arrow, and began shooting using the plain white side of the target. This helps the students to be more successful the first few times, we will be turning it around and learning to score next week! Kdg.-5thAll of the grades participated in the same activities this week, they were just modified per grade level. (Use of tees, distance of zones, etc.) We are getting so much better at our striking skills--and so many kiddos keep telling me they are joining baseball and softball teams! This week students participated in two different activities. The first was "One Base." One base is a great game because it gives students the opportunity to get a lot of striking, and base running in, while their partners are fielding the ball. Once the fielding team placed the ball on the team, the batter was "out" and he/she was done running back and forth from the base and tee. The second activity was, "Quickball." In quickball, the batting team scores by hitting the ball into the different zones. The zones went by distance, and if the student was able to hit the wall it was a homerun and worth 5 points. Our Wednesday group was very fortunate and able to go outside with the nice weather. They were really able to hit the ball far!I allowed the students to keep track of their personal scores, or just play for fun. I was so impressed by our fielders and their ability to catch pop flies...they would get so excited! |
