Monday the 22nd kicked off snowday #4! Followed by a 2 hour delay on Tuesday! Kdg.-2nd GradersMs. Gauthier/Sylvia's group was able to take advantage of our snow that we received and were able to try out our snowshoes! What a process it is to get snowshoes on 1st graders. So many smiles and laughs when they were trying to walk made it absolutely worth it though! Most classes had only one day of PE this week with our schedule and what that we introduced Jump Rope for Heart. We watched our intro video, ran our stick races (if we missed them last week) and began trying some jump rope tricks! 3rd-5th GradersMs. Lapp's class was also one of the lucky ones to have class after the fresh snow, and was able to snowshoe. The older students were much more successful and so many asked when we could do it again! As soon as we can stay above 0 and keep snow on the ground (it seems to either be so cold or be warm and melt the snow this year!) Classes that had PE the rest of the week watched the Jump Rope for Heart intro video, made up their Pacer (if they missed due to weather last week), played Hockey Mini Games, or began some jump rope tricks. I cannot wait for next week, when all of the classes will be on the same page, fingers crossed for no snowdays!

Save The Date! This is a great way to stay active with your family during these winter months! They borrow snowshoes from Emerald every year so there will be plenty. Come out, enjoy the fun, and see the newly redone trails! Report cards will be coming home this coming week, be on the lookout! |

Whoa! What a quick week, between the snowday Monday and 1/2 days for exams Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, I am ready to see my students all week next week!
Kindergarten-2nd Graders
Only two lucky classes came to PE this week, Ms. Gauthier's 1st graders and Mrs. Richey's Kindergarteners. We did our stick races to see if we have improved our cardiovascular endurance since the fall. Students are asked to do as many laps as possible in the gym for the duration of one song (2:30). They absolutely love this, they get to dance, cheer, and chant to support their teammates!
3rd-5th Graders
We started off this week with our mid-year Pacer Test. I mostly only see 5th graders this week due to exams. Our goal for now is to rank on the gold standards OR improve our Fall score by two laps! The Pacer Test is assessed using the Healthy Fitness Zone Standards (HFZ) I have converted them into Bronze, Silver, and Gold Goals to make it easier for the kids! If they make it to gold at the end of the year they earn a golden certificate! Ask you son or daughter what their score was for our mid year assessment!
Attached are the January Newsletter and the Fitness Challenge for this month! I sent these home with the students the first day back-but I know how easily folder papers get misplaced. I am already loving the feedback from the you and somebody challege. I have received several high fives so I know they are off to a great start!

Our first two snowdays of the year arrived! I hope the kids enjoyed their break Thursday and Friday!
Kdg.- 2nd Graders
We are full steam ahead with our striking unit. Lower elementary started off this week with a game of scooter hockey. We reviewed the scooter safety information and learned a great deal about these things called scorers and protectors in Kindergarten. First and Second graders took it a bit futher and learned where offense and defense are supposed to be, and how important passing and receiving is to being successful in a game! Kindergarten took a break from striking at the end of the week to touch up on locomotor movements/cardiovascular endurance. We played both, Chicken Taco Tag, and Couch Potato Tag! First and Second graders played, "Sharks and Sailors" to continue to refine their stick handling skills!
3rd-5th Graders
Four goal anything seems to be a favorite in class! This week we started with four goal hockey. I love this game because everyone is always playing and moving! We had some pretty successful teams (see pictures below!) The winning team from each class gets their picture on the bulletin board outside the gym!
Welcome Back! I hope everyone enjoyed their break and is ready to kick off this new year! This week in Physical Education we began our Hockey Unit! Classes started off with 6 Hockey Stations. We learned how to grip the hockey stick, choose the right stick for us, and some of this skills we will be needed to be successful in the upcoming activities. Some of which included stick-handling, face-offs, passing and receiving, and shooting. Students did a great job keeping the sticks on the floor for the safety of others! Towards the end of the week, we played Poison Puck Minefield. The lower grades divided the gym in two and focused on each game individually, while the upper grades combined both! Essentially it is like a huge game of tag with hockey sticks, but you have to avoid the obstacles set up to try and make it more difficult. In case you were wondering, I did tell the students they could bring in their own hockey sticks and safely store them in my office--our sticks are pretty short and the taller kids could benefit from bringing in their larger sticks!
