Welcome Back! I hope everyone enjoyed their break and is ready to kick off this new year! This week in Physical Education we began our Hockey Unit! Classes started off with 6 Hockey Stations. We learned how to grip the hockey stick, choose the right stick for us, and some of this skills we will be needed to be successful in the upcoming activities. Some of which included stick-handling, face-offs, passing and receiving, and shooting. Students did a great job keeping the sticks on the floor for the safety of others! Towards the end of the week, we played Poison Puck Minefield. The lower grades divided the gym in two and focused on each game individually, while the upper grades combined both! Essentially it is like a huge game of tag with hockey sticks, but you have to avoid the obstacles set up to try and make it more difficult. In case you were wondering, I did tell the students they could bring in their own hockey sticks and safely store them in my office--our sticks are pretty short and the taller kids could benefit from bringing in their larger sticks!
