Kdg.-2nd GradeThe lower grades worked on developing their foot dribble, trap, and instep kick skills this week. We started off the week using soccer skill stations. The stations included: dribbling, passing, throw-ins, trapping, instep stationary kick, rock wall/jumping skills. We really focused on not using our toes, but the inside of our foot instead. When we were kicking we were making sure to watch the ball, take a big step and kick using our shoelaces. Towards the end of the week we played "Dribble 500." The gym was like a race track and the students ("cars") had to avoid each other while dribbling to avoid a car crash. Every now and the the music would stop and their cars would stall. When this happened, the students had to trap with the ball with the sole of their foot on a poly spot. We would change directions and adjust our speed: walking, fast walk, and even a jog towards the end of the class! 3rd-5th GradersUpper elementary worked on refining their skills in order to play a soccer game later in the week. They participated in the stations like the lower elementary did, I just adjusted them to make them more difficult for the older kids. The last day of PE this week they played a game called, "Pin Soccer." It was so much fun and quite a workout! The class was divided into four teams and they were able to score in any of the three other goals that didn't belong to them. If they scored, we would restart the game in the middle, but the students would steal one of the three cones in the goal they scored on. The objective was to have the most cones in their goal at the end of class. This game was really great because they were always moving. If a offensive player was getting tired, they were able to switch with either the goalie or defense to allow they to catch their breath. They all did a nice job and were able to try several different positions.
