Welcome back! Most classes only received one day of PE this week due to the scheduled day off on Monday for the holiday, and the unexpected April snow day on Wednesday! We are starting our short handled striking units this week. We are fortunate to have a variety of implements such as: foam lolipop paddles, pickleball paddles, tennis rackets, and badminton rackets. This week upper elementary learned how to play "Pickleball". Pickleball is a favorite of mine, and once the kiddos get over the name they seem to love it too. (side note: the person who invented pickleball had a dog name pickles that was constantly running around trying to get the ball, and it was named after him!) Lower elementary went through a variety of "striking stations" to help develop their skills. In Michigan, we are supposed to be successfully striking by second grade! Stations included: (1) striking a balloon, (2) striking a beach ball, (3) hitting a ball downward (like a dribble) with a paddle, (4) keeping a beach ball up in a circle-how many touches can you get? (5) Striking a large bouncy ball against a wall, (6) pickleball over a net with a modified ball. Classes that received a second day of PE were able to participate in Easter Themed Stations this week. We had (1) Bunny Hop Sack Race, (2) Egg and Spoon Relay, (3) balance toys (4) Egg Toss (5) Egg-sersise Instructive Eggs, (6) Find the Golden Egg under cones.
