Kdg.-2nd GradersWe finished our striking with short-handled implements unit this week. Students learned how to play "Floorball." Floorball is played completely underneath a net and the ball is passed back and forth between opponents. It was a perfect introductory game because it was easier on their hand eye coordination not having to track the ball in the air, or on a bounce. The last portion of the week we played a similar version of pickleball. Students practiced underhand serves, and contacting a moving ball after a bounce. They were surprised to see how much more difficult this was! I had originally planned to play a game of striking four square, but after their initial class this week, I knew that would have to wait until next year when we had refined our skills! 3rd-5th GradersUpper elementary continued striking this week as well. We were able to use two different short-handled implements: a tennis racket and a badminton racket. 3rd graders focused on the differences between the two, bouncing on a serve, underhand/overhand, scoring, etc. but didn't actually score unless they chose to. 4th and 5th graders actually scored games and I rotated teams to the middle courts in order to play a championship like game. I was pleased to see how many of them have said they played badminton before, they really enjoyed playing!
