Kdg.-2nd GradeWe wrapped our rolling unit this week. In the beginning of the week, lower elementary played a game called, "Rockin' Rollers." The object of this game was to run from one side of the gym to the other without getting your foot tagged by the ball rolled by a roller on the sidelines. If your foot was tagged, then you too became a roller. The last runner left was the champion and was allowed to choose rollers for the next round. The students did a phenomenal job with this activity, and actually inspired me to let the older kids do this as well. In our last PE days this week, the lower elementary students were allowed to bowl on our bowling lanes (they didn't keep score) but they did learn what basic terms were such as strike, spare, split, etc. Each student was allowed two rolls like in traditional bowling then it was their turn to set up pins. The kiddos were so excited when they knocked over the pins! 3rd-5th GradersThe upper elementary kids started off the week playing "bowling bingo". It was a fun twist on keeping score in bowling. The students were divided up into teams, and helped score each other. Students were given two rolls and were to add up the score of each roll...this was the number they would fill in on their bowling cards. Just like normal bingo sometimes it took a while to try and get your number or maybe a certain number of pins wasn't there. The winners of bowling bingo were able to choose a bowling tattoo to take home. Kids were telling me how fun this game was, and they weren't even thinking about the mathmateical components included. The older kids finished off the week playing the highly cardio "Rockin' Roller" game that we played with lower elementary in the beginning of the week. We are feeling the frigid temps this week, and with inside recess the kids all had quite a bit of energy they needed to burn off!
