Kdg.- 2ndLower elementary started this week off learning about striking with long handled implements. We learned the proper way to hold a hockey stick, and some of the basic rules such as keeping your stick on the floor for safety in PE. We went through partner passing, cones, and even got to practice shooting into a goal for a bit. The last half of the week we played two games and split the class in half. The first game was "Poison Puck" and the second was, "Minefield." The kids seemed to really love both activities but based on our huddle at the end poison puck seemed to come out on top! 3rd-5thEveryone was so excited we are finally beginning our hockey unit! We did stations our first PE period of the week, and the rock wall was open as well. Our second PE class we combined the two games that the little kids played into one. It was an absolute blast! Having mines set up on half of the court made it more challenging to avoid the poison puck for the more experienced players, while students that were new could focus on just one task at hand. If they hit a mine, or were tagged by the poison puck they had to choose between 10 jumping jacks or running one lap around the gym. Students wanted to get back in as quickly as possible and weren't even noticing how long they were being active for! It was great!
