Kdg-2nd GradersWe all participated in basketball stations on our first day of PE this week. This helped us to gain an understanding of the skills we will be learning. The younger kids will be predominately working on hand dribble, but we included some shooting stations as well. We are trying to remember three main things when dribbling: 1) Fingertips only 2) Only waist high 3) Eyes up! They are doing a phenomenal job and some of them can even explain BEEF in the huddle. We played the game "Feed the Frogs" on our second PE day this week. This game helped to enforce proper hand dribbling while both stationary and moving. They students were "frogs" and had to leave their lily pad hula hoop to eat as many "flies" (poly spots) as possible in the 2:45. We took turns using our left hand, right hand, and switching back and forth. 3rd-5th GradersThe older students worked on basketball stations this week as well. We had 6 of them and worked on bounce pass, chest pass, free throws, dribbling, shooting, etc. The second day we started to apply our skills and all of the groups LOVED our activity. We played the "Ultimate Shooting Game." We utilized all 6 of our basketball hoops, with two teams at each hoop. The first person in the line shoot and got their own rebound. They had to either chest pass, or bounce pass the ball to the next person in line. If a basket was made the team would all yell (1-5) depending on the number of baskets made. Once a team made 5 they moved on to challenge the next team. It was competitive and exciting and teammates were working together to better each others form. A few of the classes even had students make it all the way around before class was over!
