Kdg.-2ndWe finished up our volleying skills this week, and added striking. The students did an absolutely phenomenal job working on their volleyball skills. Some of the kids were even telling me they were practicing at home! Early in the week we played "Clean Your Room" with the volleyball nets. The kiddos were using the skills they learned to get the volleyball trainers over the net and onto the other side of the room. Every so often, I would blow the whistle, students would freeze, and we would see whose room was cleaner! At the end of the week, we adapted our abilities to using difference sized balls to hit over the net. In this unit students were given the opportunity to use, balloons, volleyball trainers, beach balls, and even a huge over-sized volleyball! 3rd-5thParent teacher conferences on Tuesday put a little bit of a damper on the older kids PE time this week as it was a half day. We worked on a modified volleyball game this week called, "Volley Bounce". We used the standard volleyball rules and rotations, and the players used the serves, bumps, and sets we have been learning. The difference, however, is the students are given a "1 bounce rule" which means that the ball can hit the floor once in between hits and still be played, if the ball hit the floor twice consecutively it was considered a dead ball, and play was restarted. I was so impressed with how quickly some of the classes caught on to rotation, and who was supposed to have the ball. This was so much fun this week, and the kids seemed to learn a great deal in our volleyball unit!
