Kdg.-2nd GradersIn lower elementary, we are focusing on our classroom rules, procedures, and working together to get to know our classmates. In the first day of PE this week, students participated in an activity called "musical hoops", and we travel using different "locomotors" or ways to move as well call it. We worked on speeds, levels, and cooperatively getting in a hoop when the music was off. Most classes were able to fit into three or four hoops in the end! The second half of the week was dedicated to our "stick races" our cardiovascular test for lower elementary, they get to cheer on their teammates and really seem to truly love this! 3rd-5th GradersUpper elementary student began work on their FitnessGram Fitness Tests. The two tests we focused on this week were: Push-Ups and the Pacer Test. The push-up test is performed to a pre-recorded voice over that instructs the students to go "down" and back "up." This assessment targets overall upper-body strength and endurance - primarily the chest, but also the biceps and front deltoids too. The Pacer is our cardiorespiratory endurance assessment and it too is performed to a pre-recorded voice/beep. We perform the 20m test, and each time the student hears a beep, they attempt to run to the other side of the gym, before another beep. Each minute the cadence increases, and students are allowed two misses and then their test is over.
